Are Your Employees Sitting Comfortably?

Author: Allison Thompson

When an employer is first setting up a new office or even deciding to refurbish the old one, one of the biggest decisions that they will have to make is the sort of office chairs that their employees will be using.

Any employer should remember that whilst their employees are at work a vast amount of their day will be spent sat at their desks, so the chair that they are sitting on needs to be comfortable in order for them to carry out the duties effectively.

One of ways that you may be able to decide which chairs are best for your staff is try to arrange to test drive some. By doing this you will enable your employees to see for themselves which is the best one suited to their daily needs and work schedule.

There are also a number of important points you should be focusing on when deciding upon the best office chair for you and your employees. The first one being that you are able to adjust the height of the seat so that when you are sat on it your feet are placed flat on the floor. Next if possible look to see if the chair has a lever for adjusting the backrest as this will help to make sure that your posture is correct when sat in the chair. You will also need to make sure that your knees are slightly angled below your hips and by having a rounded front to your chair this will also help to maintain proper circulation to your body. Another thing to consider is to ensure that the backrest to the chair feels comfortable and fits comfortably against the curve of your back or your employees back whilst sat in it.

Another issue you will need to consider when considering the purchase of new office chairs for you and your employees is your requirements in relation to how it will be used. Some chairs are only designed for usage for short periods of time where there are others which have been specifically designed for more extended periods of daily usage and some even designed for specific roles with an office. You may have to consider looking at purchasing a separate kind of chair for secretaries or data processors who are employed within your company and who are usually sat at their desks for continuous periods of time.

Finally, remember that above all the chairs that you are purchasing for either yourself or your employees should be comfortable when sat on them and look to see if any one can feel any place where pressure is being placed on the body when sat in the chair it self.

Although it may take some time to find the right chair for either yourself or your employees will be worth at the end of the day. It has been found that by providing your staff with a comfortable work station they are likely to be more productive in their day to day duties.
