As you recruit new people into your business you will only come across three types of people. 1) People who are open to opportunity, 2) people who are wishy-washy, and 3) people who are not interested in anything you have to offer. You may not realize this, but it is important to build relationships with all of these people. You are in the networking business. Your job is to talk about various elements of your business to as many people as possible on a daily basis. Does that mean you have to try and recruit every one you meet? Of course not. Yet, that is what many people do when they first get involved in MLM, and some of us never kick the habit. The most important thing is that you are consistent with people in your approach, and that you are genuinely interested in each individual. Building a relationship with everyone you meet is the most powerful way to recruit. Sure you want to have success immediately, and recruit tons of new distributors. But what good is it to go out and convince a bunch of people to join your business, only to have them quit a few weeks later. If you try to aggressively recruit everyone you meet and know, not only will you destroy relationships, but you will not find solid leaders. Recruiting is a sorting process. You are fishing, not hunting. The most important skill in your approach is listening. You must identify which type of person they are, and adjust your next few words accordingly. No matter which type they are, a 1, 2 or 3, you still have an opportunity to build a relationship. Usually 2's are people that we waste most of our time on. Often times, people will say they are interested, when they really are not. If some one is genuinely interested in your business, they will come to a meeting, the first time you invite them. The most important thing is turning the 2's and 3's into 1's. A rule that makes sense to me is this: * Spend 80f your recruiting efforts with 1's * Spend 20f your efforts with 2's * Spend 0f your recruiting efforts with 3's. If you have 3's around you that you would like to do business with, the right ones will come around when the time is right. The 2's are usually wasting your time because they cannot make a decision. People who cannot make decisions will not be producers even if you do recruit them. 1's are action oriented, and ready to rock. Expose, and re-expose if necessary, then they will be ready to roll. Showing that you genuinely care about people will allow you to build powerful and long lasting relationships whether or not they do business with you. The more relationships you build, the more people you will meet that will be interested in what you are doing. |
